Glocknerhaus Museum

In the year 2000, 200 years after the first climb of the Grossglockner, the highest mountain in Austria, the Glocknerhaus Museum in Kals was established. The exhibition “Under the spell of the Grossglockner” is a modern display. Its many rooms explore the themes of nature and minerals, human life, and Austria’s highest mountain.

Lavant Exhibition

The basement of the chapel of rest at the foot of the picturesque hill will the church is located is home to the small Lavant Museum. It showcases part of a collection of antiquities from the area, and provides an overview of finds made during archaeological excavations in recent years.

Wurzerhof

The Wurzerhof in East Tyrol is a scenic ensemble. It consists of a single-roof farm with several outbuildings, such as a laundry room/smoke room, a chapel, and a grain and sawmill. It is situated in the very secluded area in the Winkeltal valley near Ausservillgraten.

Outdoor Museum Oberlienz

The Outdoor Museum in Oberlienz features an array of historic buildings, all of which are located at the heart of the village and along the banks of the River Schleinitzbach, which flows down from the mountains and eventually joins the River Isel. The museum gives visitors a glimpse of how life used to be in this region close to Lienz.

Kammerlanderhof

The residential building of the Kammerlander farm is about 500 years old (its first written mention dates back to 1545). The house is built of mixed materials (stone and timber logs), and has remained largely unchanged over the centuries.

Bruck Castle

This monumental castle, which has belonged to the city of Lienz since 1942, is one of the main attractions in East Tyrol, and currently houses the Lienz City Museum, which boasts the largest collection of works by the East Tyrolean painter Albin Egger-Lienz.

Heinfels Castle

The stories of Heinfels Castle are told through modern media, film and audio installations, as well as digital animations. The awe-inspiring masonry is also examined, and visitors can learn about the purposes of the individual parts of the castle.

Klaubauf-Museum

With a great deal of dedication and craftsmanship, the East Tyrol-based Oberschneider family from Matrei adapted the so-called “Bäckenstadl” into a museum, and turned the historic building in the village centre into an exhibition platform and stage for a display focussing on an ancient local tradition.

Museum of Railway Friends, Südbahn Heizhaus Railway Shed, Lienz

The "Südbahn Heizhaus" railway shed in Lienz is home to the Museum of Railway Friends. The shed, which was originally built for maintaining steam locomotives, dates back to the time of the Villach - Fortezza/Franzensfeste (South Tyrol) railway line, which was put into operation in 1871 and ran for approx. 212 km.

Local Museum Kals

The Heimatmuseum Kals (Local Museum Kals), which opened in 1974, is housed in an old primary school and presents a comprehensive exhibition of various types of objects representing the history of this municipality located at the foot of the Großglockner.
